Store ~ Final Site Link

Here is the link to the final Valo site:

For my print element for the Valo project, I am planning on creating a gift card. The basic layout of the card would look something like this:

The idea would be that the Valo logo would be transparent. In the same way that the white logo on the site is representative of light breaking through the clouds, this card will actually let light shine through the Valo logo. The front of the card would be printed on a transparency, and the back would be printed on light grey paper with a cutout of the reversed logo. These two sheets would be glued together, laminated, and have their edges rounded. If a large quantity of these cards were produced, the pink items on the card could be printed in a variety of colors that matched the overall color scheme of the clothing line.

Store ~ Flash element

November 22, 2009

This weekend I worked on my flash element for the Valo website.  We plan to use a magnification feature on all of the product pages of the site. I created one as a test that uses one of the pics from our photo shoot. I created this flash element so that it would be easy to switch the photos out…  all you need to do is change one line of code. I’ve posted my test version of my flash element on myWeb:

Store ~ Comp usability test

November 20, 2009

I conducted a usability test on Friday, November 20 on the four Valo comps we have designed so far (home, outerwear, rain jacket array, individual item… see comps below)

For this test, I had my friend and coworker Kylie help me out. Kylie is 20 years old and is an education major at WWU.  She also works for the office of New Student Services/Family Outreach on campus. She uses the internet at least three hours a day, mainly to check email and facebook.  She has often purchased items online in the past and has recently used Ugg, Old Navy, and Ebay for online shopping.

The following is a link to the usability test screen/audio capture that is hosted on ScreenToaster.com:

Here are the comps I am going to use for my first usability test. The home page, outwear page, and item array page we designed as a group. The individual item page is my design; we are all planning on creating our own version of the design and deciding which one we like most when we meet up again.

This weekend the Valo group got together and did a second photo shoot for our site. All of the photos are currently on Jenny’s laptop, and a sample of a few of them can be found on her blog here.

We also worked on our final comps of the Valo site for the home page, a category page, and a subcategory page:

For my flash contribution to the Valo site, I am planning to do a ‘zoom’ feature on the product pages. I found a magnifying glass tutorial online,  and I am planning to modify it to fit our website. Basically, when a product page first loads, there will be a large image of the product on the left hand side of the screen. When a user hovers over the image, a magnified circle will appear revealing the hi res image of the product.
